chiropractics - the opiate of the masses
I’m sure you’ve heard that religion is the opiate of the masses. Could be. But right now I’m just sick of the religion of chiropractors.
Let’s take a look at what doctors, in general, do for patients:
Hypothetical situation 1- Johnny’s sick. Johnny’s mother take little Johnny to the doctor. Dr. Caldwell give Johnny some medicine. A couple of days later, Johnny is all better and never needs to see Dr. Caldwell again.
Hypothetical situation 2- Timmy broke his leg while kayaking. Timmy’s dad rushed him to the hospital. After they remove the cast, Dr. Casey sends Timmy to Physical Therapist Marco who teaches Timmy to use his muscles again. After a few weeks, Timmy never sees Dr. Casey or Mr. Marco again.
Hypothetical situation 3- Macy gets muscle spasms. Macy decides to go to a chiropractor for help. Mr. Dumas straightens Macy outs and she feels the best she ever had in her entire life. She can’t believe that it was so easy and fast. She goes home and for awhile is feeling fine. Then she feels bad again, this time worse. She knows the only relief she will ever get is if she goes back to Mr. Dumas. Mr. Dumas assures Macy that if she keeps coming to him for the rest of her life she won’t ever feel bad (except for the times between treatments).
I don’t know much about alcohol and drug addictions. I took a class at the university about it; some people make it their life’s work to figure out how and why others get addicted to various substances. We did some case studies where we saw this guy or that girl experiment with a drug. Then the person would feel extremely good. But then the withdrawal effects would kick in and the person would be in pain until they did it again. We also saw perfectly fine individuals turn into crazy alcoholics where they’d escape their pain (whether physical or mental) by downing their choice spirit and have to continually turn back to the bottle to “fix” their problems.
So many of us would see these people and say to them, “You’re not fixing your problem. You’re only making it worse.” But when it comes to chiropractors versus real doctors we find an exception. A real doctor makes you well and sends you on your way, but alcohol makes you continually turn back to itself for the rest of your life never really fixing your problem, rather only giving you a “fix”.
I heard a
story from a very reliable source about the wife of a pastor (protestant
church) here in the greater Dallas/Fort Worth area. The true story goes like
this- The wife was having lower back pain and the pastor mentioned it in
passing to a parishioner that she’s going to go consult a chiropractor. The parishioner
had objections about the practice due to innate intelligence and other voodoo philosophies
associations with it (btw, voodoo is still voodoo even if you call it Christian
voodoo. A witch doctor is a witch doctor even if you call him a Christian witch doctor. so, none of this "but my chiropractor is a Christian chiropractor" nonsense.).
The parishioner mentioned that he had just been made well by
going through physical therapy and that he thought she’d do better by doing the
same. The pastor responded that his wife had been to a doctor and that the
doctor gave her some exercises to do, but that she just wouldn’t do them.
Obviously, she’s just looking for the “quick fix” something “to get her through
the day”. She misses church more often than not – her own husband’s church. The
chiropractor realigns her spine and she feels better. She needs to go to him
regularly so that he can support her spine. But the chiropractor never fixes the problem, she still ends up in pain. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if she
would just develop her muscles to support her spine and increase her
flexibility to prevent rigidity than to turn to alcohol chiropractics? But she refuses to be self-disciplined enough
to do so.
She’s in charge of a woman’s Bible study. Would you trust someone
with your spiritual well-being if they were addicted to crack or alcohol or
pot? This person is not self-disciplined enough to help herself get better
physically, but you’ll trust her to help your spirituality? Some people choose to
be blind and I would never willingly submit myself to her authority.
Don't choose blindness. Get help for your addiction.
